Return to work

Sustaining an injury at work, be it from the repetitive or overuse injuries to those from trauma, that renders you unable to work can be heartbreaking. When your capacity to work and earn a living is threatened by an injury, it can throw your entire life off balance. However, when you entrust your rehabilitation to Perfect Motion Physiotherapy, you can be confident that we will get you back to work as soon as possible.

The goal of our unique rehabilitation program is to efficiently treat your injury and get you back to feeling yourself as quickly as possible. Through constant observation and personal one-on-one care, our highly skilled practitioners will be with you every step of your journey to recovery.

Returning to work following an injury can be an educational experience for both the employer and the employee. With the proper training and education, this process can be smooth, effective, and stress-free. Our goal is to make the employee (our patient) feel better so that they can return to work safely. We provide clinically effective treatment, followed by intensive strengthening and conditioning, to restore the worker’s ability to return to work safely. We offer work conditioning for patients who have reached a plateau in their acute rehabilitation process, but still find it difficult to perform highly physical tasks at their workplace.

Returning to work following an injury can be an educational experience for both the company and the employee. With the correct training and instruction, this procedure may be smooth, effective, and stress-free. Our goal is to make the employee (our patient) feel better so that they can return to work safely.

We’ve found that a lack of communication between your rehabilitation team (including your physiotherapist), the case manager, the doctor, and the rehab consultant often leads to everyone having their own ideas and pulling you in different directions, leaving you feeling powerless over your own recovery and, as a result, upset and stressed. This is why, at Perfect Motion Physiotherapy, we ensure and value open communication methods; and to relieve the added stress and to ensure we are all on the same page, we check in with your case manager and GP every few weeks.

Our team at Perfect Motion Physiotherapy understand what you’re going through and that’s why we’re here to help you get back on track as quickly as possible. Through observing your injury, treating it, and designing an exercise program for you, our highly skilled physios will be with you every step of the way of your recovery.

Our principal practitioner, Nav has special interest in this area and is currently the Secretary of the South Australia chapter of ANZSOM (Australia New Zealand Society of Occupational Medicine), an organisation that seeks to advance knowledge, practice and standing of occupational health.

Your Recovery Journey

Our uniquely developed Return to Work rehabilitation program includes a combination of traditional and contemporary physiotherapy treatment techniques, that will help us identify the causative factors of your injury, aid in your recovery process and get you back on track as soon as possible. We believe physiotherapy does not just include acute injury treatment, but also the continuous management and education of long-standing issues.

Your recovery journey will include a combination of different physiotherapy techniques; and will begin with an initial assessment. Your initial assessment will involve a thorough assessment and observation of you and your current function level, including movement by our experienced physiotherapist. We listen to your concerns and formulate an injury management plan, while also educating you about the science of your injury – a thorough understanding of your unique issue is extremely vital in getting you the best results possible. We centre our treatment around your job and lifestyle requirements.

Our priority is to get you moving as quickly as possible. Our team of highly skilled physios then begin with hands-on clinically effective physiotherapy treatments, which would include mobilisation, manipulation, ultrasound, and other modalities. The aim of this first part of your rehabilitation is to alleviate pain and restore as much movement as possible, getting you ready to strengthening and conditioning as best as possible. Our physiotherapists work with you to formulate a unique and detailed management plan, personalised to your goals, causes for your issue, and treatment options to get you back to your best self quickly.

This will aim to alleviate the pain and restore as much movement as possible, enabling you to perform your strengthening exercises as best as possible. Your situation may be that you’re expected to return to work in some capacity; in this case, our physios will guide you on how to modify your activity in a way that doesn’t exacerbate your injury.

We believe education and guidance is an important part of our rehabilitation process; and our physiotherapists will guide you on how to modify your future work activities in a way that doesn’t exacerbate your injury. We also then provide you education on how to avoid and resolve further injury, if it were to resurface in the future.

Our Return-to-Work program, personalised to each injured worker, will have a special focus on the following: (will/may include the following:)

  • We centre our care around your job roles and description
  • Coordination of care with doctors, employer, case manager, rehab consultants and patients.
  • Work conditioning/hardening
  • Early and safe return to work
  • Minimal lost work time

Our plan of care for injured workers will include:

  • Strength and endurance evaluation for work-related activities
  • Assessment of worker’s capacity to perform work-related activities
  • Recommended functional activities based on your current capacity
  • Education on symptom management
  • Customised treatment plans to meet worker’s goals
  • Personalised home exercise programs

Home exercise, strengthening and active rehabilitation

In conjunction with hands-on treatment, our physiotherapists also design a personalised home exercise program. This is a range of exercises that strengthen the parts of the body that your injury has affected. Through your dedication and the guidance of our physios, you’ll see more ease of motion returning to your affected muscles and joints. Strengthening your body will help you increase your capacity for full function at work.

Gym program and return to work

Once your body gets stronger, it may be time to start rehab in the gym. This could involve personal training and exercise physiology, alongside a detailed exercise program for you to complete at the gym. Soon enough, you’ll find that your body is almost ready to return to work. This is an important step for both you and your physiotherapist, who will remind you of specific activity modification which is vital to continue when at work.

Work injuries and work cover can be a challenging experience for anyone. Whether you work in an office or on a construction site, the body faces challenges at work and injuries can render you unable to perform your job. Our team of highly experienced physiotherapists will help you make a full recovery, getting you back on track. For the best physiotherapy treatment at one of our two convenient practices, book an appointment at Perfect Motion Physiotherapy and take your first steps towards returning to work.
